Chrono Chase
Abstract
Problem Statement
Chrono Chase is an endless runner game developed in Unity using C#, featuring three distinct modes that span past, present, and future environments. Chrono Chase offers a unique twist with time-based gameplay, where players run from a lion in ancient times, a police officer in a modern city, and a robot in a cyberpunk future. The player collects coins while navigating through increasingly challenging obstacles, using the coins to customize their character and buy different kits for player in an in-game shop. The system is composed of three key modules: historical, present-day, and futuristic game modes. Each mode has unique enemies, environments, and hurdles. While the game offers visually diverse environments and an engaging progression system, the complexity of balancing difficulty across different eras and ensuring smooth mobile optimization could pose challenges. Using tools like Unity for game development, Blender for 3D modeling, and Audacity for sound design, Chrono Chase aims to deliver an immersive game experience. Future directions include expanding to more time periods, adding multiplayer modes, and refining AI for dynamic enemy behavior.
Most endless runner games offer repetitive gameplay with limited variety in environments and challenges, leading to reduced player engagement over time. There is a need for a more dynamic and immersive experience that sustains interest while introducing fresh gameplay elements. This project addresses that gap by developing an endless runner game with a unique time-travel feature—transporting players across different eras with distinct visuals, enemies, and mechanics to enhance excitement, challenge, and user retention.
